How do you go about trying Linux?

If you don't want to install Linux, there are a few on-line services that will let you play with Linux from the comfort of your current OS - One I usually recommend is https://distrosea.com/.

If you want to try a live install, pretty much all of the mainline OSs let you try it before you install, even allowing you to install software in the live session without touching your current OS;

  • Alma Polished and stable, great for a server.
  • Arch Huge community assistance (BTW).
  • Bazzite Based on Fedora, designed for gaming.
  • Debian Huge install base, hundreds of other distros based on it, once you try it, you may never go back.
  • Fedora Beautiful but frequent updates.
  • Linux Mint Solid, stable, works.
  • Open Suse Millions of Germans can't be wrong.

I'll add more things in here as time permits.
